Bay Area Parent Coaching

Parent Coaching

I provide a compassionate and collaborative approach when working with parents. I focus on parents’ strengths rather than what they “are doing wrong”. I help parents identify which coping strategies and parenting techniques are currently working or need improvement. In parent coaching sessions I help parents achieve their goals without judgment.

I respect the fact that every parent parents differently and has their own set of values. Therefore, I tailor my interventions and treatment plan to what works for each unique parent(s).

As a parent coach, I see my role as a guide rather than as an expert. Being a parent myself of a teenage son and daughter and having over 20 years of experience providing parent coaching, I believe that parents know their children the best and therefore bring the most expertise to parenting their own kids.

Yet, when our children enter challenging developmental stages or experience other life transitions, new challenges arise that even the best-intentioned and skilled parents might not feel equipped to handle.

It can be very scary and humbling to admit as a parent that you don’t know how to best guide your child through a rough patch or help them overcome challenges. Sometimes it takes a crisis in a family before a person realizes or is open to parent coaching or getting additional professional support.

I have found that the sooner parents can reach out for professional support, the better. Sometimes that just isn’t possible for a variety of reasons and I am always available for crisis coaching and consultation.

Some of the common parenting issues I help parents with include:

  • Limit and boundary setting
  • Emotion and behavioral regulation
  • Social media/screens
  • Positive Discipline
  • Temperamental differences between parent & child
  • Communication and conflict management
  • Attachment and connection
  • Co-parenting
  • Grief/Loss
  • Navigating life transitions

My expertise in Family Systems Theory, Positive Discipline Parent Coaching, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)  informs my parenting and family work.

“My husband and I worked with Courtney on parent coaching while our daughter was in therapy with her. Courtney could not have been any more insightful, compassionate, and available. Courtney helped us support our daughter while completely respecting the therapist/client relationship. Courtney is so skilled in working with both adolescents and adults and she is able to balance what each needs. In our case, she did it beautifully and sensitively. I cannot recommend Courtney highly enough!”
