Teen and Young Adult Therapy

With teens and young adults facing increased pressures in their daily lives, anxiety and depression are on the rise. During this transitional phase of life, it is especially important for young people to learn healthy coping strategies along with tools for managing emotions, navigating transitions, and ensuring healthy relationships.

The main issues I treat when working with teens and young adults include:

  • Generalized Anxiety
  • Social Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Technology & Social Media
  • Academic Pressure
  • Self-harm
  • Body-image & eating issues
  • Drugs & alcohol
  • Major Transitions
  • Self-Esteem
  • Divorce-related issues
  • Family issues
  • Sleep
  • ADHD
  • Sexuality & Identity
  • OCD
  • Test Anxiety
  • Grief and Loss
  • Perfectionism

When working with teens and young adults, I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) techniques. I have found the combination of these two therapeutic approaches provides the most effective outcomes for clients, especially when combined with a compassionate, relational setting.

When appropriate, I collaborate with family members of my clients – meeting together or separately –  to develop a treatment plan that draws upon strengths and targets everyone’s goals. In my experience, the more parents and family members can work as a team, the more successful therapy will be for their child.

“My daughter worked with Courtney on and off over 5 or so years. I could not have picked a better therapist for our daughter. I spoke to several therapists before choosing Courtney and I have never made a better decision. Courtney has a wonderful rapport with young people and my daughter felt supported and understood by Courtney at a really difficult time/s in her life. Courtney is compassionate, understanding, empathic and flexible. Her presence in my daughter’s life has made such a difference and our family will always be so grateful to her!!!”

“I began working with Courtney when I had just finished my freshman year of high school and we continued working together until my junior year in college. I had had a less than satisfying therapeutic experience before coming to her, so it was incredible to experience the safe environment that Courtney provided in her space. I felt listened to, seen, and as a young person that was life changing for me.
